In the normal review process, minor errors in the manuals have been noted and will be corrected with the next addenda.
  3. 2008-2009 work plan and budget
The 2008-2009 work plan and budget will be approved at the meeting.
  4. Technical committee reports
A status report from the technical committees will be presented.
  5. SUDAS-related research projects
A status report on the current SUDAS-related research projects will be presented.

II. Design Manual Items

  1. Iowa DNR’s Standards for Sewer Systems
Iowa DNR contacted SUDAS staff requesting input on their revised standards for sewer systems.  The SUDAS Design Manual currently references these standards in Chapter 3 (Sanitary Sewers) and Chapter 4 (Water Mains).  The recently revised Specifications Section 4010 (Sanitary Sewers) also references these standards.
  2. Utilities (Chapter 9)
The Utilities chapter (Chapter 9) has been rewritten to include the structural design of pipes (depth of bury) information that was previously included in the Stormwater Management (Chapter 2) Chapter.  The current Utilities chapter has also been reformatted and the cross-sections have been updated.

III. Specifications Manual Items

  1. Earthwork, subgrade, and subbase (Section 2010)
Staff has completed working on revising Section 2010.  This work includes reconciling inconsistencies identified in Phase I of the Iowa DOT and SUDAS Inconsistencies project, recommendations from the Subgrade and Subbase research project, general clean-up, and a section name change from “Clearing, Excavation, and Embankment” to “Earthwork, Subgrade, and Subbase.”
  2. Trench figures (Section 3010)
The trench figures have been revised as a part of Phase II of the Iowa DOT and SUDAS Inconsistencies project.  The cross-sections and depths of bury have been revised to correspond with the rewrite of Chapter 9 (Utilities).  The accompanying specifications were approved in October.
  3. Spot repairs by pipe replacement (Section 4050)
Execution language about pipe repair couplings needs to be added to Section 4050 (Pipe Rehabilitation) because there currently is product information but no reference to its use anywhere.  The proposed execution language came from a figure that is going to be archived .
  4. Sewers and drains figures (Division 4)
As a part of Phase II of the Iowa DOT and SUDAS Inconsistencies project, revisions were made to the figures within Division 4 (Sewers and Drains).  The accompanying specifications were approved in October.
  5. Valve box and fire hydrant adjustments (Section 5020)
Valve box and fire hydrant adjustments were removed from Section 2010 (Earthwork, Subgrade, and Subbase) to be included in Section 5020 (Valves, Fire Hydrants, and Appurtenances).
  6. Structures for sanitary and storm sewer figures (Division 6)
Since sections 6010 (Structural Concrete), 6020 (Manholes), and 6030 (Intakes) were combined into one section as a part of Phase II of the Iowa DOT and SUDAS Inconsistencies study, the figures needed to be renumbered and reviewed.  The accompanying specifications were approved in October.
  7. Pavement removal (Sections 7010 and 7020)
Pavement removal was included in Section 2010 (Earthwork, Subgrade, and Subbase) but is more appropriate to include in the two paving sections.
  8. Recreational trails, sidewalks, and driveways (Section 7030)
The Recreational Trails, Sidewalks, and Driveways section was also rewritten as a part of Phase II.  The figures have been revised as well.

IV. Other

  1. Addenda
At the October Board meeting, staff asked for input on how to keep the manuals in circulation up to date, how to identify non-active manual holders, and how to obtain email addresses.  During this discussion, the concept of charging for updates was addressed.  This item was also presented at the November district meetings for additional feedback.  The resulting comments and a staff proposal will be discussed.
  2. Next meeting
